Scott Grant Eckert has been writing for many years, but has just begun publishing his works. His poem, "Crashing Waves" was published in the New Jersey Poetry Society's 2006 anthology, A String of Colored Beads. Since September 2005, he has sent out numerous poems and has five manuscripts being circulated for publication. Scott has been writing short stories, essays, and is currently working on a novel.
Scott gets his inspiration for his writings from personal experiences like visiting the New Jersey shore, traveling abroad to Ireland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Thailand, and China, love experiences, and all the little things that occur during everyday life. The most influential aspects for Scott's writings are Wildwood, New Jersey and Ireland.
Scott has different love ties with Wildwood, New Jersey. While growing up, he had many relatives that lived in town. His grandmother would take him to see his aunt and cousins often. He has fond memories of these visits with his relatives, but Wildwood, also, has some sorrowful memories for Scott. One evening, Scott's close cousin, was driving back to Philadelphia from Wildwood, when he was fatally injured in a car crash. As the years has gone by, Scott still thinks of him all of the time, especially while he is in town. Scott has also had a few love relationships that started in Wildwood, which inspired his poems: "Crashing Waves", "Touch of Heart", "Changing Tides", "Burning Sand", and many more. For Scott, the memory of this wonderful place is like it was yesterday. He still visits Wildwood often, especially, when he is in need of inspiration for his writings.
Scott has been intrigued with the beautiful country of Ireland since his youth. He did plenty of research and spoke to the native people of Ireland to find out the best way to visit their country. He asked their opinions and their reply was simply, "Just go without worrying about anything." Scott took their advice and, in October 1999, he did just that. He bought an airplane ticket to Ireland without any scheduled reservations or ideas for a place to stay. He stayed in Ireland for two weeks. He traveled to Dublin, Cork, Galway, Sligo, Letterkenny and Derry. He met people from Ireland, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, France, Canada, Greece, Scotland, England, and the United States. Each conversation he had with each person was unique. He saw the beauty of Cork while standing on a nearby hilltop. While visiting Sligo he would often watch the flowing waters of the Garavogue River. Along the river, Scott noticed an old Russian fishing boat. He asked a young Irishman about the boat and was told that the crew had docked the boat and abandoned it. The boat was an eyesore to the Irishman and townfolk, but Scott saw it as a truly beautiful Irish experience. He took many pictures of the passive water and the Russian fishing boat. Also, in Scott's exploration, he climbed hills and mountains, hitchhiked to the beach, socialized in pubs, and visited many historical sites.
Scott is a member of the Poetry Society of America (PSA) and the New Jersey Poetry Society (NJPS). His interests include writing, artwork, music, going to the beach or being near the water, meeting new people, going new places, and studying business. |
